The Orange Light is looking forward to welcoming guitarist Sam Wilson, from Halifax/Kjipuktuk who will be performing with trio, featuring the Vancouver-based rhythm section of drummer Jen Yakamovich and bassist Geordie Hart, and in duo with fellow Haligonian, trombonist Andrew Jackson. They will be performing music from Sam's trio record 'Wintertides' which is a meditation on how landscape and environment inspire Sam's compositions through her love and empathy for natural places. Written during the winter of 2022 on the east coast in Scotsburn and on the west coast at Lena Residency, on Galiano Island, it is inspired by two contrasting landscapes and the collaboration of two creative communities featuring Jen Yakamovich and Geordie Hart. Andrew Jackson and Sam Wilson have been exploring the interplay of trombone and guitar, while honing their musical chemistry as a duo since 2014. Upon meeting both musicians were searching for a setting to explore jazz in a less traditional format, which has led them to develop a common musical language and create an original duo sound.
